Checking Out

Library Card & PIN
Library card applications are available at all County libraries and the Bookmobile. Cards are free to anyone with a valid form of identification showing name and current mailing address.

Fines, Fees, and Loan Periods
Fines: Items should always be returned promptly. All adult materials are subject to fines. If children's items are overdue more than six weeks, a processing fee is charged for each item. Borrowing and renewing privileges are restricted if balance owed is $10 or more. Accounts may be referred to the rebilling service when balance is $50 or more. Individuals sent to Rebilling Agency may not check out until a zero balance is reached. All payments must be cash or check.

Near the Calaveras Blvd. overpass, west side. Heading WEST take the Main St. offramp. Heading EAST go left on Abel, right on Weller. Map. The Community Library is easy to reach by car or by the #66 VTA bus or the #217 AC Transit bus.

Fines and Fees Policies
Effective August 2010
The overdue fine on DVDs and videos will now also be $0.25 per day.
Holds ­ the first three holds on your card at any one time are free. There will be a $1 fee for each additional hold placed on your card after the first three.
Holds on children's materials are free.
Holds will be limited to 10 per card at any one time.

"Book Club To Go" Book Club Kits
Tired of having to track down multiple copies of a book for your next book group meeting? The library now has convenient kits that you can check out for free.

Book Group
Meets the fourth Wednesday of the month from 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. Not held in the summer. For additional information please contact Terye Riley at 408-262-1171. Check here for books being discussed.

The Latest Scoop
An online collection of articles and news, organized by date, topic, and location. Topics range from reading lists and book reviews, to program and event information, resources for kids, investment tools, health tips, and genealogical resources.

Story Time For Small Children
Three different story times each week. Updated March 27, 2009.

Summer Reading Club
A program to encourage school-age children to enjoy summertime reading. The program runs for approximately 6 weeks from June through July.

Vision Literacy
Formerly the Santa Clara County Library Reading Program, we are dedicated to improving the community in which we live by helping adults improve their literacy skills. 408-262-1349

Here are some photo highlights from our celebration of Ed Cavallini at the June 14, 2000 meeting. Ed retired as Milpitas Community Librarian and will live with his wife, Jeanne, in Carmel.

Friends of the Milpitas Community Library
This group raises funds for the Library by having book sales several times a year.

Library Advisory Commission
This Commission helps determine library activities and levels of service. Meets 7:00 pm at the Milpitas Public Library on the 3rd Monday of odd numbered months.

Note: though our library is certainly a public library, it is operated separately from the City Government, which is why it s called the Milpitas Public Library rather than the Milpitas Public Library or Milpitas City Library.
